Step 3: Use the top button to move the door to the ideal open position. You can use the bottom button to fine-tune the position with gentle nudges. The perfect open position is right at the top trim, clearing it without going any farther than necessary.
Step 4: Press your remote control button, or the wall-mounted door button, to save the open position. The door will automatically begin closing on its own.
Step 5: Press the top button on the opener to stop the door mid-close. Then use the bottom button to fine-tune the closing point. The ideal closed position is one where no light passes through the bottom weather seal, but the opener’s rail doesn’t flex or bind under pressure.
Step 6: Press the wall button or remote control to save the closed position. The door will automatically start opening again.
At this point, your travel limits are fully set.
Part 2: Setting the Opening and Closing Force
Force settings determine how much resistance the opener will push through before reversing — important for both safety and smooth operation.
Step 7: If the door is closed, open it first. Then press the bottom (purple) button twice. The LED should begin blinking.
Step 8: Press the wall button or remote control to start the door closing. The LED should continue blinking throughout the entire closing cycle.
Step 9: Press the wall button or remote control again to begin opening the door. Once the door reaches the fully open position, the LED will stop blinking — signaling that the force adjustment is complete.

Once you’ve completed both parts, your Craftsman garage door opener’s travel limits and force settings are fully programmed.
